What we do, how we do it
We are a family business – A tour guide and a travel agent, living in Jerusalem.
We work In places that we have a connection to, that we understand about, and that we like to visit ourselves. You could say that we’re inviting you to come stay at our second home.
We do everything in-house (literally; at the kitchen table, in fact,) and along with tried and tested friends and colleagues, we only sell things we’ve seen and experienced ourselves, or which our friends have seen and experienced themselves.
We like to veer off the beaten track, and seek new and interesting ways to experience familiar topics and places, and add new ones.
We are great believers in the human element. Our trips are conducted like a trip with your friends rather than like an “organized tour.” The itinerary on our trips is free and spontaneous, with our travelers having as much say regarding what happens as we do.
We put a premium on deep understanding of the place we’re going to, its history, culture and politics. We’re not afraid of complex and controversial topics, as we believe that a trip to a foreign country should be challenging and interesting. We don’t refrain from less comfortable or routine places, or from showing the rough sides of reality, and we don’t believe in “must-see” sites and other tourism industry conventions.
We believe that tourism should have a beneficial effect on the places in which it takes place. We will never partake in harmful sorts of tourism, or ones that disrespect the host country, such as various forms sex tourism. We pay fair wages and rates to our local partners, and support businesses and initiatives which we believe have a salutary effect on their surroundings.
We also expect those who travel with us to treat each other, and the residents of the places we visit, with respect, tolerance and curiosity. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any kind of assault, harassment or abusive behavior on our tours, but to this day we have yet been forced to resort to any type of sanctions.
Hundreds of people have already traveled with us and through our services. We organize our own unique trips, produce study tours and expeditions and escort private trips such as heritage tours. Among the institutions we have worked with are the Haifa University Excellence Program, The Graduate Program of the Israeli Nursery for Social Entrepreneurship (CoLab) by the New York Jewish Federation, The Schusterman and Genesis philanthropic funds, the production teams of the Cultural Brigade’s “Odessa-Tel Aviv” and “Sankt-Petersburg-Tel Aviv” festivals, and the students of Dov Elboim’s courses at BINAH, the Hartman Institute and the Herzog Center.
