Discover Jewish History

Almost 75% of the world’s Jews lived in Eastern Europe before the great migrations of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the Holocaust. This is the largest concentration of Jews in history. The roots of most Jews living in the world today are there.

The more we study and research the subject, the more we find how fascinating, surprising and diverse the story of Eastern European Jews truly is, and how much more it contains than the image of the destitute shtetl, the Hasidic courts and the shooting pits, which constitute most of the popular treatment of this topic.

Therefore, we have taken a mission upon ourselves: To tell the parts less dealt with, to tour the roads less traveled, to smash myths and stereotypes and to seek new, interesting and contemporary ways to retell the story which is perceived as old and worn, but in reality is anything but.

We believe that dealing with this history and all its twists and turns, and the culture and thought it produced, can provide new and interesting answers to burning current questions of identity, Jewish peoplehood and rifts within and between Jewish groups.

We place a premium upon understanding the historical context, for you can’t understand Jewish history without a deep look at the history of their neighbors, and vice-versa. We also like to treat Jewish life as a chapter in its own right, and not merely as a “Holocaust prequel.”

We imbue these principles into every tour we plan, whether of our own initiative or by order. In addition, we have knowledge and experience in construction study tours, developing contemporary methodologies and leading research trips. Our project of a tour of Batei Midrash for opinion leaders from Israel, the United States and elsewhere, in conjunction with the Yaacov Herzog Center, with help from the Shalom Hartman Institute.

We are connected to an array of first-rate experts: Researchers, writers, musicians, actors and others, who will enrich your study experience.

We shall be glad to plan, produce and lead an educational trip for your organization, to turn a heritage tour into a deeper dive into your family’s world, or to enrich a private trip with fascinating and unexpected details from the world of Eastern European Jewry.
